About
Veteran Health Educator
Hi, I’m Pixel.
I’m Paula Kadanoff, aka Pixel. You can find the story of my name in my blog post. I'm a health and sex educator, curriculum writer, advocate, goals coach and health education enthusiast. For over 25 years, I’ve worked alongside schools, organizations, healthcare providers, and community groups to create education that is both useful and deeply human.

I have been doing health education work since I was a teen. In college, in the wake of the AIDS epidemic, I worked as an HIV test counselor in the peer run, college supervised HIV clinic. After finishing my Masters in Public Health, I got a teaching position as a high school health teacher at the Celia Cruz Bronx High School of Music, where I earned my teaching certificate.
After teaching for some years, I moved my efforts to a branch of NYC's central office, The Office of School Wellness Programs. There I worked to train, coach, support, connect and advocate for K-12 health educators around the city.

For the past few years I have moved my work to my own platform to be able to combine direct teaching, curriculum development, policy work and more.

Pixel Pop is the hub where all my streams of health education work meet. All of my projects have one goal: to help people feel seen, informed, and supported in a world that often makes that hard.

Why I do this work
I believe education can be transformative when it meets people where they are—offering both clarity and compassion. That belief has guided my career in health and sex education, my advocacy for people with chronic illness, and my work helping individuals and communities set meaningful, sustainable goals.

Where this work began
In early high school I attended the 1993 Gay Rights March on Washington, to this date one of the largest protests in US history.

This political rally modeled an intersection between sex education, socio-political advocacy, joy and community building that I continue to use a model in my work.
